GOEDE CAPS OFF A NIGHT OF EXCITING FEATURE FINISHES AT LACROSSE

When the battles over the lead in a race become so intense and competitive late in the going, you know you are in for a very thrilling nail biting finish that will leave you on the edge of your seat all the way to the checkered flag.  We have witnessed many exciting race finishes here at the LaCrosse Speedway over the years, not to mention all throughout the racing world going back to the early years of auto racing.  We saw some amazing finishes in our feature events.  They included a last lap power move by a defending track champion, a driver determined to beat a dominant driver on the quarter-mile, the hottest female racer in the Midwest sweeping her division, a first time feature winner and a driver looking to continue his impressive full-time run at LaCrosse.  That last driver would be Jacob Goede as he powered by Adam Degenhardt with three laps left and drove off with third checkered flag victory of the 2024 campaign.

After a spirited battle for the first two laps of the Kwik Trip 25 lap NASCAR Late Model feature, Adam Degenhardt (Coon Valley, WI) powered around Bryan Wrolstad (Faribault, MN) to settle into the number one position on lap three.  Steve Carlson (West Salem, WI) took over second from Wrolstad on lap four and was not having much luck trying to close up Degenhardt’s gap.  Mike Carlson (West Salem, WI) took over third on lap six from Wrolstad, but was unable to close in on his dad to eventually challenge Degenhardt for the lead.  Jacob Goede (Carver, MN) was picking his way through the field after starting 12th in the feature.  By lap 11 the battle was on for fourth with Wrolstad, but the yellow flag flew just before halfway for a spinning Tom Leuthe (West Salem, WI) in turn two.  Goede went right back to work on the restart and shot past Wrolstad for fourth as the crossed flags were displayed.  Goede was far from done as he drove around Mike Carlson to take over third on lap 15 and then powered around Steve Carlson to claim second on lap 17.  Goede needed just three laps to reel in Degenhardt and waited for the right moment to strike.  That moment came coming out of turn two with three laps to go as Goede worked his way underneath Degenhardt to take command of the race.  Goede pulled away from the pack over those final three laps to capture his third feature checkered flag of the 2024 season and strengthened his point lead.  After the race Goede said “Some people think the moves I make look easy to get to the front, but going up against these top notch drivers is a lot more work than you may think.”

Chris Weber (Cashton, WI) took the lead of the Sportsmen feature on lap two.  Weber was somehow able to not push the boundaries of the 22.100 second breakout time the Sportsmen had to contend with this week.  Weber did have to battle with Mike Krueger, Jr. (Sparta, WI) over the final few laps but held onto the top spot and ended the four race win streak of Bob Fort (Fountain City, WI).

Justin Iverson was on his way to his first ever Hornet feature win, but the yellow came out with two laps remaining.  Defending champion Ben Thurk powered by both Jake Schomers and Iverson in that two lap shootout to capture his first victory of the year by a mere .027 seconds.

It looked like it would be Rob Stanfield taking the win in the Street Stock feature, but Al Bartels was quickly making up ground on Stanfield to make the finish very exciting.  After swapping the lead back and forth Bartels suffered a throttle issue in turn three but was somehow able to keep his car from tagging the outside wall.  Stanfield took advantage and powered his way to another feature win.

The last time the Mini-Vans were in action Fletcher Milene was so tantalizingly close to his first ever feature when he suffered a flat tire in turns three and four.  There would be no issues tonight as Milene pulled away from the field to make his first ever trip to Altra Federal Credit Union Victory Lane.

The American Super Cup feature saw Max Labak lead the first half of the race before JoJo Fadke powered by him at the mid-race mark.  Fadke survived a late race challenge from Giovanni Sallee to complete a clean sweep of their racing program.  Fadke’s red hot start to 2024 continued as her victory at LaCrosse would be her fourth consecutive series win.

The wacky Outhouse Novelty event featured a new twist this year with our regular announcer Connor Pelch joining in the fun.  Pelch posted an impressive time of 31.620 seconds, but Rob Stanfield put on another epic performance to defend his victory in last year’s event.  A speedy run of 27.490 seconds allowed Stanfield to retain his crown as the “King of the Port-A-Potty”.

Our regular weekly competitors and the big track take a break next Saturday, July 6 as the ‘action track’ quarter-mile will be in the spotlight during the annual Quarter-Mile Mania event.  With the Olympics Games happening in a matter of weeks, the highlight of the event will be the first ever Stock Car Olympics.  A variety of different racing competitions will take place with a host of ‘countries’ participating.  We will also have thrilling racing action with the Street Stocks, Six Shooters, Mini-Vans and the High School Racing Association.  Gates open at 5:30, the quarter-mile qualifying kings will be determined shortly after that and the door slamming racing competitions commence at 7.
