Brent Kirchner (LaCrosse, WI) powered to the front at the start of the first Budweiser 20 lap NASCAR Late Model feature. As Kirchner began to slowly pull away from the field, Adam Degenhardt (Coon Valley, WI) moved up to second by lap seven. Over the next several laps, Degenhardt would slowly eat away at Kirchner’s advantage before he caught the rear of the 8 machine on lap 12. Biding his time Degenhardt would dive low on Kirchner entering turn one with six to go before nosing ahead at the stripe. Kirchner stuck to the outside lane and found a little more speed to take the top spot back. With two laps to go, Kirchner got a run out of turn two to power his way in front of Degenhardt and drove away to his first win of the season. Kirchner said after the race “That was a good clean battle with Adam, but our car has just a little more power to hold to take the win.”
In the second Budweiser 20 lap NASCAR Late Model feature, Steve Bachman (Bangor, WI) shot under Mike Carlson (West Salem, WI) to assume the race lead early on. After going from last to ninth in the first feature, Matthew Henderson (LaCrosse, WI) moved into second on lap four and began to track down Bachman. Just before halfway both drivers were locked in a hard fought battle. Henderson dove low to claim the top spot on lap seven. Bachman did the exact same move and shot past Henderson to take back the lead on lap nine. As Bachman slowly began to drive away with the top spot, Nick Murgic (Rosemount, MN) and Steve Carlson (West Salem, WI) began to reel in Henderson. Both drivers dove low to take over second and third with seven to go. There would not be enough laps for the duo to close the gap as Bachman rolled away with the win. After the race, Bachman said “We’ve got 75 pages of setup notes from Toby Nuttleman and now we have to go through them to find what setup is right for us.”
