(West Salem, WI – July 15, 2017) Mother Nature makes fans endure the extreme heat and humidity early in the night and then threatens them with rain as the sun goes down, but decides to hold off just enough to finish the scheduled events.
The Tobacco Outlet Plus Grocery Late Model feature would be led for the first 15 laps by Nick Clements from West Salem, but he wasn’t able to stay there until the finish as he had mechanical issues and had to leave the track with 8 laps to go. Mike Carlson took over the race lead and would hold off his father Steve Carlson until the checkered flag flew. Steve Carlson crossed the line second less than a car length behind and Tony Leis followed in third.
Justin Berg took the early race lead during the Dean’s Satellite Sportsmen feature but he wouldn’t hold it for long as Brad Warthan out of Sparta passed him to take the top spot with 10 laps to go. He would stay there until the end but had to work at the finish line to avoid a car as a driver spun out at the finish line as the race was finishing. Chaseburg’s Randy Humfeld finished second and New Prague’s Adam Oxborough finished third.
Tomah’s Bill Schott took the race lead in the Auto Value Thunderstox feature right off the bat and would hold off hard charger Adam Moore to pick up the win. Adam Moore crossed the finish line second and Scott Mahlum third. However, after post-race inspection, DQ’s were handed out to both Bill Schott and Scott Mahlum giving Adam Moore his fifth feature win of the year.
The Upper Midwest Vintage Series feature tonight had a wild start to it when Ken Lewis from Black River Falls was involved in a caution on the front stretch that caused him to fly over the front stretch wall and land on the barrier in the infield. Pat Echlin from Dyer, IN would take the race lead from there and hold it until the race was over. Chuck Adams followed him across the line in second and John Gilbertson in third.
The next event on the Speedway calendar is Friday, July 21th for the Jeff’s Auto & Cycle Repair Street Drags where there will be bracket racing, Shine N’ Show, and a burnout contest.
