WEST SALEM, WI (September 23, 2011) – The 42nd Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend is set to crown a total of eight series or division champions for the 2011 racing season. On Thursday night, October 6th, the LaCrosse Speedway’s three weekly divisions will converge one final time for the 2011 championship season.
The United Auto Supply Thunderstox division, which races on the speedway’s inner 1/4 mile oval is up for grabs. Andy Moore leads Jason Bolster by ten points and Brad Warthan by eleven. All could come away at the end of the night with a title in hand. Warthan is gunning for his first title. Moore was the 2006 champion and is trying to make it back to back for the family after brother Adam’s title last year. With the close tight racing that takes place on the speedway’s quarter mile track, anything can happen and sometimes usually does. It will be a race within a race on Thursday night for the Thunderstox teams.
Dan Gilster is a multi-time North Country Contractors Sportsmen division champion, most recently in 2007. After a dismal 2010 season, Gilster has bounced back to his normal consistency racking up many top fives and has the needle in hand, ready to stitch up his fourth title. Gilster merely has to start and the title is his. Randy Humfeld, shooting for his first crown, has come closer this season than any other in his career, looks to be a shoe-in on the runner-up spot.
Meanwhile in the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model division, the title fight is between the 2009 Champion J. Herbst and Todd Korish. Korish has been close in recent years, a consistent top five driver. Although this season has had ups and downs for all drivers involved, including Korish, Herbst, Shawn Pfaff, Brent Kirchner and more, but no one has had a handle on the title chase until Herbst found some consistency in the final few weeks of the regular season. Korish has just 25 points to make up on Herbst, but it will be a tall task. Korish has to have a flawless night and Herbst would need to run into trouble.
In addition to the LaCrosse Speedway’s weekly divisions, the Mid-American Stock Car Series, the Big-8 Late Models and the LaCrosse Outlawz will crown their 2011 champions on Saturday October 8th. On Sunday, October 9th, the ASA Midwest Tour and ASA Midwest Trucks will showcase their championship drivers for the 2011 racing season.
