GOEDE AND CARLSON PULL OFF THRILLING VICTORIOUS DRIVES DURING THE DOUBLE FEATURE SHOWDOWN AT LACROSSE

August 9, 2025

Since 2011, the NASCAR Late Models have had four or five nights during the season when they race in twin 20 lap features. This format presented a new challenge for the drivers and teams to not use up their equipment or get too aggressive on the track with another feature waiting in the wings. With this week bringing an end to the weekly Saturday night racing here at the LaCrosse Speedway, a way to end the season with a bang was needed. That idea was having all the divisions running that night to compete in twin features in the Double Feature Showdown, and it proved to be a very good night of racing. For the veterans of twin feature shows, the NASCAR Late Models put on another terrific show in their features. Jacob Goede got by race long leader Tom Luethe on a restart with four laps to go to win the opening feature. Goede almost swept the features, but could not catch Mike Carlson as he claimed a flag-to-flag win in the nightcap.

In the first 20 lap Busch Light feature for the NASCAR Late Models, Tom Luethe (West Salem, WI) wasted little time to power past rookie leader Jason Stark (Wisconsin Dells, WI) for the lead position.  Nick Clements (West Salem, WI ) and Jacob Goede (Carver, MN) wanted to be the first to challenge Luethe for the lead, but first they had to battle over second.  Goede would shoot around the outside of Clements to take over the runner-up spot on lap seven. As we entered the second half of the race, Goede was taking small bites out of Luethe’s advantage as the lap count ticked away.  A collision between Brian Lee (Holmen, WI) and Andy Barney (West Salem, WI) right in front of the leaders with four laps remaining gave Goede that chance to turn the points fight on its ear.   Goede quickly surged past Luethe on the restart as he pulled away from the field to claim his third feature triumph this season.  After the race Goede said “Maybe we should have kept our regular car at home all season because this car was a rocket ship.”

Mike Carlson (West Salem, WI) was shot out of a cannon as he took command of Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model 20 lap Busch Light feature number two.  Bryan Wrolstad (Faribault, MN) and Steve Bachman (Bangor, WI) began to slowly close the gap on Carlson for the lead, but soon they would all have to contend with two-time track champion Skylar Holzhausen (Bangor, WI).  Tom Luethe (West Salem, WI)  spun on his own in turn two at the midway point of the race, and that would give the top three in points a shot at the win.  Carlson went right back to work and pulled away from the field on the restart as Wrolstad and Bachman fought over third with Jacob Goede (Carver, MN) on their heels.  Bachman and Goede powered around Wrolstad entering turn three to drop him back to fourth on lap 13.  Goede began to look for a way around Bachman with three laps to go and powered under him in turn two for second.  There was too much distance for Goede to make up in only a handful of laps as Carlson claimed his third checkered flag win of the season.  After the race Carlson said “Our motor was lagging a little bit, so we made a few adjustments and it ran really good in the second feature”.

Dan Linnehan (Leon, WI) was fighting back the challenges of Henry Vian (Sparta, WI) in the first half of the first NASCAR Sportsmen feature.  Brent Kane (Lonsdale, MN) came to play in a borrowed ride and he used the outside groove to his advantage as he picked off runners one by one.  Kane stuck right beside Linnehan for a few laps after the restart, but began to fall pack through the field.  Linnehan did all he could to fight off Charles Vian, Jr. (Sparta, WI) until the 1 machine went to the outside for the final three laps.  Linnehan got a better run out of turn four to hold on for the win.

Henry Vian (Mauston, WI) pulled ahead of Jacob Lodermeier (Elko New Market, MN) to take the lead of TDS Telecom NASCAR Sportsman feature number two on lap two.  After the yellow flag returned on lap eight for a tangle between Bob Fort (Fountain City, WI), Charles Vian, Jr. (Sparta, WI) and Mike Krueger, Jr. (Sparta, WI) in turn three.  Tom Carlson (West Salem, WI) shot past Vian on the restart to settle into first place.  After another spin by Fort with six laps remaining set up an interesting finish.  Mark Challet (Sparta, WI) found a way around Carlson with three laps left to run and pulled away to score another checkered flag victory.

Mitchell Rinartz built up a sizable in the first feature for the NASCAR Hornets.  Defending track champion Jimmy Bjorkman was tracking down the leader before the yellow flew with four laps to go.  Bjorkman went right to work powering around Rinartz down the back straight and drove off with the victory.

Ben Thurk pulled out to a sizable advantage in NASCAR Hornet feature number two.  Former champion Kristopher Berg had his hands full holding back Jacob Iverson as Thurk got smaller and smaller in his windshield.  Yellow flew with just three laps left when Nick Hadler spun out in turn three.  Iverson powered past Berg on the restart, but had nothing for Thurk as the 2023 champion drove off with another feature triumph.

Tim Murphy, Sr. dove underneath Brandon Bion to surge into first place on lap three of the first Street Stock feature.  Ryan Stanfield held off Matt Moore for second, but had no answer for Murphy, Sr. as he scored his first feature win at LaCrosse in quite some time.

Jay Raines, Jr. moved by Ghage Moore for second on lap six and was in hot pursuit of Adam Moore in Street Stock feature number two.  Lap traffic would be a benefit to Moore until the yellow flag flew with five laps to go.  Cole Lewis spun on the front straight and unfortunately collected the drivers in the lead fight.  Ghage Moore assumed the lead on the restart, but Matt Moore waited patiently for the opening to go for the lead.  Ghage got a better run on the inside to pull away from Matt and claim the victory.

Rob Stanfield made a big time power move through traffic at the start of the first Mini-Van feature, and eventually drove past Fletcher Milene for the top position on lap three.  Kevin Laufenberg tried to catch up to Stanfield late in the going, but Stanfield’s pace was too much for the field to handle as drove away with another checkered flag victory.

Feature number two for the Mini-Vans was a hot potato as Kevin Laufenberg shot by early race leader Fletcher Milene on lap seven before losing it to the repaired race vehicle of Matthew Parent on lap eight.  Parent would have to fight off the advances of Rob Stanfield over the final six laps to capture his second feature victory of the year.

Alivia Moore powered under High School Racing Association newcomer Lauralee Stanton in turn three to charge to the front of their first feature race on lap two.  Noah Waughtal got up to second with four laps to go, but could not catch Alivia Moore as she padded her point lead a bit more with the victory.

Lauralee Stanton quickly shot past Belle Bolduan for the lead in Finish Line Towing High School Racing Association feature number two.  Noah Waughtal was also quickly making his way to the front, but so was point leader Alivia Moore.  Waughtal and Moore dove under Stanson to take the first two positions at halfway.  Moore tried to find a way around Waughtal but lap traffic was making her task difficult.  Waughtal held on to claim the feature, while Alivia wrapped up the season championship.

The final Novelty race of the 2025 season was the Flagpole Race.  The drivers had to negotiate completely around the flagpole in turns one and two every lap for five laps.  There was a lot of contact going around the tire, while a couple drivers went wide around the tire.  John Clauson and Rob Stanfield fought hard for the lead as Stanfield shot past Clauson down the back straight to claim the race win and the season points title.

After taking a two week break from racing action, we return on Saturday, August 30 with some fun racing on the ‘action track’ quarter-mile during the Big Cheese 200 Enduro. Four and six cylinder race vehicles will battle in a non-stop 200 lap race that will feature so many twists, turns and thrills. The drivers will have a ten-minute break sometime around halfway to let their teams work on the cars and stay in contention for the win. Gates open at 5:30, a beauty contest will take place at 6:45 to let the fans decide who has the best appearing enduro car and the heart stopping fun of enduro racing steps on the gas at 7.
