Everyone loves to see a driver capture his or her first career feature victory. They always work hard to put in their best efforts on the race track week in and week out, and everyone knows that they are determined to get their first ever feature checkered flag. Such is the case with Late Model driver Tom Luethe, who is very well liked even by his fellow competitors. He is a long time veteran of the racing action here at the LaCrosse Speedway for years. While he may have scored his first ever Late Model feature win at another track, a strong run in the first NASCAR Late Model gave Luethe his long awaited first ever LaCrosse victory. After starting mid-pack in the second feature, Jacob Goede methodically picked off drivers one by one before powering under Nick Clements with five laps left to notch feature win number two of the still young season.
The first 20 lap Coulee Tire NASCAR Late Model feature saw Tony Leis (Middle RIdge, WI) use the outside lane to power past Steve Carlson (West Salem, WI) for the lead. Making his way quickly through the field was Tom Luethe (West Salem, WI) Luethe also took the outside groove to charge past Leis to settle into the number one position on lap four. While Luethe was expanding his lead by leaps and bounds, the usual top guns were struggling to make their way forward. One of those top guns was Skylar Holzhausen (Bangor, WI) as he suffered a flat right rear tire and spun out from it in turn four on lap 14. Yellow returned two laps later when Leis also spun in turn four. You would think both of those yellows allowed Leuthe’s competitors to get back in the race. That would not be the case as Luethe easily pulled away from the field on both restarts and rocketed to his first career LaCrosse Late Model feature victory. After the feature win a very emotional Leuthe said “This is the coolest moment of my life. I cannot thank the fans, my sponsors and my team enough for their support.”

Tony Leis (Middle Ridge, WI) started on the front row of Coulee Tire 20 lap NASCAR Late Model feature #, but Nick Clements (West Salem, WI) quickly shot to the front of the pack. Even though Clements was pulling away to a sizable lead, rookie leader Jason Stark (Wisconsin Dells, WI) had a good starting spot and moved into the runner-up spot by lap five. Despite not making up much ground, Stark was having a career run in this feature. It would soon be interrupted by one of those top guns that struggled in the first feature. Jacob Goede (Carver, MN) found new life in his race car after making adjustments between features. That menacing orange 72 machine was third at halfway, got around Stark for second on lap 13, and began to track down Clements. Goede powered under Clements coming out of turn two to take command of the race with three laps left to run. Goede crossed the finish line first to become the first repeat feature victor of the 2025 campaign. After the race Goede said “What happened to Skylar was unfortunate in the first feature, but we kept our focus on our own deal and had a rocket ship for this feature.”

It was a rough go for the NASCAR Sportsmen in their feature event. Four yellow flags in the first half took out a number of good competitors, including defending track champion Bob Fort (Fountain City, WI). Bill Schott (LaCrosse, WI) powered around Justin Berg (Bangor, WI) for the top spot on lap five before one of the caution periods occurred. Schott was able to hold off late challenges by Berg to drive off with his first win of the year.

Jake Schomers led the first four laps of the NASCAR Hornet feature before being overtaken by Brandon Olson in turn two. Olson pulled away from the field to claim his second feature win this season.

You never know what could happen on the track to change the complexion of a race. That was the case with the Street Stock feature when leader Dakota Clauson collided with a lapped car with five laps remaining to end his race. That handed the lead over to Jay Raines, Jr. to pull away from the field on the restart and capture another feature checkered flag.

The exciting Tag Team Race was this week’s featured Novelty event. One driver runs a lap, bumps his partner in the rear, they run another lap before bumping their teammate, and this goes on for six laps. Jay Raines, Jr. and Landin Frye were a little bit quicker with their tagging than John Clauson and Shawn McCarthy to capture the victory.
Our regular weekly divisions take an early break next Saturday, June 14 for our first night of smashing good fun. The annual mid-season Smash-O-Rama will feature a lot of good hard hitting action throughout the night. Monster trucks will be crushing cars and catching big air, including the legendary Bigfoot. Motorcycles will perform heart stopping stunts that will leave fans on the edge of their seats. There will be many fun driving contests for the drivers to compete in. The Six Shooters and Mini-Vans will be the featured racing on the ‘action track’ quarter mile. The annual Boat Race of Destruction will produce another smashing outcome. We end the night with two big fireworks shows. The Magdatude jet car will burn out a vehicle on the ground, and that will be followed up by the biggest aerial fireworks show in western Wisconsin. Gates open at 5:15, qualifying for the Six Shooters and Mini-Vans kicks into high gear at 6, and the destructive good times for all to enjoy roars to life at 7.
