GOEDE PULLS OFF A DARING PASS TO MAKE A TRIP TO THE WINNERS’ CIRCLE AT LACROSSE

Since Jacob Goede began racing with us here at LaCrosse on a weekly basis, everyone has had to step up their game.  Everyone knows how consistent and dominant Goede can be over the course of a race season.  That was evident with his battle with Skylar Holzhausen that went right down to the last feature at Oktoberfest.  So far in 2025 Holzhausen has had the upper hand on the multi-track Late Model champion, but Goede got himself right back in the conversation tonight.  A daring pass of two cars in turn two with three laps to go, plus a one lap shootout allowed Goede to claim his first victory of the season.

Bryan Wrolstad (Faribault, MN) shot past Chris Skrede (Rockland, WI) to lead the early stages of the Altra Federal Credit Union 25 lap NASCAR Late Model feature. Mike Carlson (West Salem, WI) also drove around Skrede to settle into second on lap two.  Wrolstad built up a healthy lead that Carlson was not able to make a dent in as the race motored on.  Just after taking the crossed flags, Carlson began to slowly eat into the lead the Wrolstad had built up.  Jacob Goede (Carver, MN) and Skylar Hozlhausen (Bangor, WI) both cracked the top five at halfway and Goede dove under Tom Luethe (West Salem, WI) to move into third on lap 17.  Joe Nuttleman (Holmen, WI) went for a spin in turn two with three laps remaining to give Carlson a chance at the win. It appears there was contact between Wrolstad and Carlson on the restart, and that allowed Goede to shoot around Wrolstad and then under Carlson to take the race lead.  Holzhausen spun while battling Adam Bendzick (New Prague, MN) in turn two on the final lap to set up a one lap showdown.  Goede wasted little time to surge by Carlson to claim his first feature win of the season.  After the race Goede said “The battle with Skylar had felt a little different this year, but we may have found the right formula to get back to our winning ways.”

Tom Carlson (West Salem, WI) dove under Zach Oliver (Bangor, WI) to take the lead on lap six of the NASCAR Sportsmen feature.  Carlson had to endure three a rash of three caution periods that slowed his efforts, and a late race challenge by defending track champion Bob Fort (Fountain City, WI).  Carlson managed to survive everything that was thrown at him and came away with his first checkered flag victory of 2025.

Carter Horstman led the first half of the NASCAR Hornet feature before Shane Kohlmeier surges by him to move into the lead.  Kohlmeier pulled away from the field down the stretch to add his first feature win after smashing the track record he set just last week.

Veteran quarter-mile competitor Matt Moore shot by race long leader David Estenson with five laps remaining in the Six Shooter feature.  Moore started his night by setting a new track record in the class and ended it in Altra Federal Credit Union Victory Lane with his first feature win in a few years.

A new group of vintage cars debuted at LaCrosse as the Milwaukee Stock Car Racing Association and their vintage modifieds put on a good show.  Jeff Allard led much of the race before sibling Darrin Allard drove into the lead with three laps to go and captured the group’s first LaCrosse feature win.

The always heartstopping 2nd Over the Line Wins race was this week’s Novelty event.  It is always exciting to see who will jump first and will pounce on the win at the right moment.  A three pack of drivers bided their time for second place.  Dan Osthoff was the first to blink and that allowed Steven Brasda to power his way to second and the victory.

Next Saturday, June 7 will be a very fan friendly night with our annual Fan Photo and Autograph Night before the races take place.  Autographed hero cards and free giveaways will be filling up the goodie bags of the race fans, plus a few teams will be holding drawings for a few special prizes for the kids and adults.  On the track the fans will be thrilled by the racing action from the Late Models, Sportsmen, Hornets, Street Stocks, the season debuting High School Racing Association and the wild and wacky Tag Team Novelty event.  Gates open at 5:15, the Autograph Session takes the green at 5:30 and the thrills of close quarters racing fires up at 7.
