Big Sportsmen Payday Ahead For Sportsmen Winner at Oktoberfest

West Salem, WI – Speedway officials announced today a large purse for the Area Sportsmen division during the 55th Oktoberfest Race Weekend.

The Area Sportsmen division competes on Friday night, October 4th and the winner’s share for the 25 lap feature race will be $7000.  Second place will also receive a boost in payout, with a  $777 prize.  The purse bonuses are donated by the family and friends of the late Rick Schermerhorn, who tragically lost his life in 2022.  Schermerhorn was a great competitor on the track at LaCrosse Speedway, having started out in the Hornet division, and eventually became a Sportsmen Division champion in later years, driving a black, white and green car #7.

“I don’t believe it; a This is such a large paycheck for a 25 lap sportsmen race,” commented Director of Competition Ray Loughan.  “This is a great way to honor Rick, as he loved Sportsmen racing, and we can’t thank the family and friends enough for this wonderful contribution to this year’s Oktoberfest Area Sportsmen Race,” concluded Loughan.

The Friday night edition of the Oktoberfest Race Weekend includes the Super Late Models Dick Trickle 99, with three 33-lap segment features to determine the overall 99 lap champion, plus the Area Sportsmen, and Two 20 Lap LaCrosse Late Model Features.
