CARLSON GETS THE BETTER OF ANOTHER TOP NOTCH FIELD AT LACROSSE

Another fantastic crowd jam packed their way into the LaCrosse Speedway for the biggest single event of the year.  The final act of this night’s racing was the annual World Famous Trailer Race of Destruction.  Before the fans would scream and cheer for all the smashing action on the ‘action track’ quarter mile, they would witness another night of thrilling and competitive racing.  Steve Carlson took the lead just before halfway of the NASCAR Late Model feature and left the rest of the field in his wake as he drove off with another big victory.
Justin Mullikin (Holmen, WI) charged past Devin Schmidt (Belle Plaine, MN) to take the lead at the start of the Auto Value 25 lap NASCAR Late Model feature.  Mullikin was on a mission to claim his second win in three weeks, but Cole Howland (LaCrosse, WI) quickly closed the gap on Mullikin then shot past him to settle into first on lap seven.  Steve Carlson (West Salem, WI) was also making his way quickly through the field as he caught Howland and drove around him on the outside to become the new leader on lap ten.  As Carlson began to pull away from the pack, point leader Nick Murgic (Rosemount, MN) was trying his best to catch the blue 66 machine.  Murgic dove low entering turn three to get under Howland and moved up to second with eight laps to go.  Over the final eight laps Murgic was unable to make up very much ground on Carlson as the ‘King of the Short Tracks’ drove away with his third feature win of 2021.  After the race Carlson said “We made a couple minor adjustments after the Dash and my car was unstoppable in the feature.”
In the Sportsmen feature Bill Schott (LaCrosse, WI) took the lead five laps into the race in his modified.  Ed Ross (Melrose, WI) was glued to Schott’s rear bumper over the final four laps of the race, but Schott was able to keep Ross behind him and capture his first checkered flag of the season.

Jason Bolster withstood many challenges from the red hot Thomas Farra over the final six laps of the Hobby Stock feature to make his long overdue return to victory lane.
In the Street Stock feature Peter Thompson stuck to the inside lane and held off a ton of pressure from point leader Rob Stanfield to claim his first ever feature victory.

The night wrapped up with the single biggest Novelty Event of the season, the World Famous Trailer Race of Destruction.  21 competitors took to the ‘action track’ quarter mile to smash, crash, trash and destroy all the campers, boats and trailers they could.  When it came time for the fans to decide who was the winner, John Clauson got the loudest support from the fans to score another smashing success in the Trailer Race.
Action continues next Saturday, August 7 with the Late Models, Sportsmen, Hobby Stocks, Hornets, Six Shooters and the High School Racing Association.  Gather up all the dollar bills, quarters and half dollars you can this week because it’s time once again for Buck Night.  All concession items will cost you just one dollar and beer will sell for only three dollars.  Gates open at 5:30, qualifying begins at 5:45 and racing starts at 7.
