Race fans got their Labor Day weekend started the right way with a lot of metal mangling action on the quarter-mile action track. The annual Quarter Mile Mania took place at the LaCrosse Speedway. The Street Stocks had a lot of door banging action, and the Mini-Vans decided their 2018 champion, The highlight of the night was the 200 lap enduro for four and six cylinder cars. After 200 laps of door slamming action, Al Bartels survived the mayhem to capture the win.
The enduro began with 67 cars in the field. Over the first 100 laps, a lot of bumpers would come off of several cars. There were be a lot of tight racing in the corners. A few cars would even have small fires under them. Even the tire barrier in turn two was not safe. By the time the halfway break came, Ian Zimmerman would show the way. Half of the starting field returned to action for the second half of the race. Tire issues hit several drivers over the second 100 laps. Zimmerman was comfortably in the lead until less than 40 laps to go. Contact with another car would result in Zimmerman’s right front tire being ripped off the car. That would give the lead to Al Bartels, who would drive away from the field to claim victory in the grueling enduro.
Zach Liebsch led all the Street Stock feature until gremlins slowed him down with four laps to go. Tristan Drazkowski was the beneficiary of Liebsch’s misfortune, but he had to fight off point leader Matt Moore to score the win. The Mini-Van feature would decide the championship as Rob Stanfield and Matt Moore fought side by side for several laps. Stanfield would power by Moore on the final lap to capture both the race win and the season championship.
Action continues with the final Friday Night Street Drags of the season on Friday, September 7th. Practice runs take place at 6:45, with the bracket competition starting at 7:30.
