(West Salem, WI – July 29, 2017) On a gorgeous Saturday night at LaCrosse Speedway, fans were in for an action-packed night of racing as the Late Models, Sportsmen, Thunderstox, Street Stocks, and Outlawz put on a fabulous show for them.
The Tobacco Outlet Plus Grocery Late Model feature would see Matthew Henderson of LaCrosse take the early race lead on lap one. He would stay there for the first 12 laps of the 25-lap feature, until Brent Kirchner took the lead away. Kirchner would fight off Steve Carlson for 6 laps in the top spot, but wasn’t able to stay there. Carlson would take the lead away on lap 19 and would stay there until the end to pick up feature win number three on the year. Nick Panitzke followed Carlson across the finish line and Brad Powell, the quick time qualifier, finished in third. The night ended very badly for the number 18 Jerimy Wagner. After a huge burst of flames came out of his car, heading down the front straight away whatever broke sent him sailing into the turn one wall. Wagner was ok, but that was not the same story for his car.
After a caution in lap 5 of the Dean’s Satellite Sportsmen feature that took out the front 2 cars, West Salem’s Steve Bachman found himself in the top spot to bring the field back to green with 10 laps to go in the feature. Bachman was far from finished though, as he would have to fight through 3 more cautions before he would see the checkered flag fly. West Salem’s Jeff Thompson was also able to survive the cautions to finish second and New Prague, MN’s Adam Oxborough followed in third. One of the intense crashes inside the Sportsmen feature saw 4 time feature winner Brad Warthan of Sparta, WI tangle with the 28 of Shawn Lockington, which sent both of them sailing into the turn one wall. Lockington’s car ended up sideways before ending up on its wheels. Warthan peeled away from the wreck in a crumpled car that nobody thought would make its way back into the race. After ten minutes and numerous helping hands in the pits, Warthan made it back out to complete the race.
Kaleb Hardy of Sparta took the lead on lap 1 of the Auto Value Thunderstox feature, but it wasn’t an easy win. He would have to fight off five time feature winner Adam Moore who was looking for his sixth feature win of the season, to take home the win. Hardy would do it though, to get the feature win, Moore would finish second, and Kyle Lockington finished third.
Chris Sampson took the lead on lap 7 of the Auto Value Thunderstox feature and would take home his first feature win of the year. Benjamin Arendt finished the race in second, and Chris Larson finished third.
Jason Bolster took the race lead early in the Subway Outlawz feature on lap 1. He would be able to fight off Jerry Alsworth who was trying to take the top spot, but was unable to and took home second. Mark Challet finished in third.
The next event on the Speedway calendar is Saturday, August 5th where there will be the Late Models, Sportsmen, Thunderstox, Mini-Vans, and the Trailer Race of Destruction.
