(West Salem, WI – June 3, 2017) After some early evening rain showers and track drying was complete, we went green flag racing at LaCrosse Speedway with a gorgeous Wisconsin sunset as a backdrop.
After a caution coming out of turn 4 on the first lap of the Tobacco Outlet Plus Late Model Feature 1, Nick Panitzke took the early race lead and ran away with it from there to pick up his first ever regular season feature win! He held off Cole Howland and Brad Powell who finished second and third respectively.
During the second feature, he took the race lead with 8 laps to go in the 20 lap feature and had to hold off Steve Carlson who was trying for the lead. Panitzke prevailed. West Salem’s Carlson followed in second, and Tony Leis of Middle Ridge took home third.
The Dean’s Satellite Sportsmen Feature saw and Bob Fort of Fountain City lead this one early, but by lap 8 he lost that lead in a 3 car wreck. On Lap 8, after a couple of cautions, Sparta’s Brad Warthan took the race lead and held onto it until the checkered flag flew. Randy Humfeld of Chaseburg took second and Steve Bachman of West Salem followed in third.
After their first 2 races were canceled due to rain, the Auto Value Street Stocks finally got to turn some laps on the track tonight. Cameron Riggs of Winona, MN took the race lead early on lap 1 and held onto it until lap 9, when Tom Farra of Sparta, WI took the lead away from him. Farra stayed out front for a couple laps until John Eron of Merrilan, WI stole it from him with 4 laps remaining and picked his first Street Stock Feature win of the season. Tom Farra finished second and Keith Larson finished third.
The Auto Value Thunderstox feature was won by Kyle Lockington of LaCrosse who took the front spot on lap 4 and stayed there until lap 15 when the checkered flag flew. Mark Challet from Bangor followed in second and Adam Moore finished third with a pass in turn 4 on the final lap.
The next event on the Speedway calendar is Friday, June 9 for Sea Foam Street Drags.
