In preparation for the 2011 racing season at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway, the LaCrosse County Agricultural Society is now in phase two of the track lighting improvement project. Upgraded track lights are being installed in time for opening night, on Saturday April 23rd.
The lighting improvement project started last fall prior to the 41st Oktoberfest Race Weekend, and included new and added lights in turns one and two. “The difference in lighting was substantial, and a huge plus to all of the competitors at ‘Fest last fall,” commented turn two Official and spotter Fred Mehlum. The second phase of the lighting project includes the backstretch, which will be completed prior to April 23rd.
Two more phases will take place this season, including the third stage in turns three and four, and then the final stage, the frontstretch lights. The LaCrosse County Agricultural Society, which owns and operates the fairgrounds and the Speedway’s 50/50 raffle at race events is handling the lighting improvement. Other past projects funded by the 50/50 raffle that both fans and drivers have been able to appreciate and enjoy include a complete repaving of the 5/8th mile in 1994, new restrooms in 1997, plus in recent years new seating, and new concrete walkways have all taken place.
The 2011 season will roar to life on Saturday, April 23rd as Budweiser presents the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Models, North Country Contractors Sportsmen, United Auto Supply Thunderstox and the Volden Construction Outlaws. Plus, Fans will see a Thunderstox second over the line wins novelty race. Gates open at 6:00 and qualifying will begin at 6:15. The first 2011 green flag will take place at 7:30.
