Wells Named New General Manager at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway

West Salem, WI- He grew up at a race track, granted that track was about two hours south, but Austin Wells is no stranger to LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway.  The 26 year old UW- LaCrosse graduate was recently named the general manager of the 5/8 mile NASCAR Sanctioned paved oval in West Salem which features racing events on Saturday nights as well as their popular Street Drags on the third Thursday of the month.  Wells practically grew up at Madison International Speedway and was most recently the general manager of Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI before concentrating his efforts and learning under 36 year LaCrosse manager Chuck Deery this past season.

“For the last ten years, short track racing has been my main focus.  Being able to work with everyone up here in LaCrosse and having their support moving forward means a lot to me.” noted Wells.  “This is a premier track and it is an honor to be handed the reigns for the next chapter in its history.  We have so many traditional events here and have some new twists throughout the schedule for the teams and fans.  I’m looking forward to getting the first few events under my belt and getting the season off to a strong start.”

Many in the racing world will recognize Wells not only from Madison and Angell Park, but he has been instrumental in LaCrosse’s Oktoberfest Race Weekend in recent years alongside his role with the ASA Midwest Tour and various other racing adventures.  While there is a change at the top, Motorsports Management, Inc co-owners Deery and Gregg McKarns look forward to what Wells will bring to the table.

“I was essentially the same age as Austin when I started here at LaCrosse.  There was a lot that I had to learn on the run but after 36 years, it seems it all turned out all right.  There are so many great memories and great people that have helped shape this track along the way.” recalled Deery. ” Under Austin’s leadership, the great memories will continue with great people right by his side.  It is an exciting time for the track and I’m looking forward to watching some great racing and seeing where he is able to take this program in the years ahead.”
