FREDRICKSON MAKES HIS OWN FIREWORKS WITH A BIG LACROSSE WIN

The 4th of July holiday weekend is a fun time for everybody with parties, family and lots of fireworks lighting up the night sky.  The biggest fireworks show in western Wisconsin put a big exclamation point on a very competitive holiday weekend of racing at the LaCrosse Speedway.  There was plenty of fireworks on the track with exciting close quarters racing that left the fans going “OOOHHH” and “AAAHHH”.  After Dan Fredrickson came close to breaking his own track record in qualifying, he only needed 12 laps to get to the front of the feature and left the competition in his way to score his first win of the season.

Jackson Lewis (Elko New Market, MN) took the lead at the start of the Kwik Trip 25 lap NASCAR Late Model feature, but Jerimy Wagner (Onalaska, WI) quickly caught Lewis and powered around him for the top spot on lap three.  A lap later Steve Carlson (West Salem, WI) drove around the outside of Lewis to move into the runner-up spot.  While Carlson tried to make a dent into Wagner’s advantage, Dan Fredrickson (Lakeville, MN) was making a hard push through the field.  Contact with Lewis on lap six did not stop Fredrickson from settling into third.  Fredrickson dove to the inside of Carlson to capture second place on lap nine.  Three laps later Fredrickson used the inside groove to shoot past Wagner and take command of the race just before halfway.  As Fredrickson began to open up his lead, Carlson tried again to close the distance on Wagner.  Carlson was not able to make any moves on Wagner as he began to pull away from the wily veteran.  No one would have an answer for the four-time Oktoberfest 200 champion as he captured his second career LaCrosse Late Model win.  After the race Fredrickson said “I just love to race here at La Crosse.  It suits my racing style.”
Bob Fort (Fountain City, WI) had his hands full with Andy Barney (West Salem, WI) in the Sportsmen feature until a rash of yellow flags gave Barney a chance to regroup and go after the win.  Fort pulled away from Barney in the final four lap shootout to score his third feature win of the 2022 season.

Keanna Barney used lap traffic to her advantage in the final two laps of the Hornet feature to fight off the relentless challenges of Lester Stanfield to notch her first career feature victory.

The last lap of the Six Shooter feature saw Matthew Cleveland dive to the low side on race leader Al Bartels entering the back straight.  Cleveland hit the gas first coming out of turn four and captured the checkered flag win.

The American Super Cup Series was welcomed back to LaCrosse after a long absence with a lightning fast, newly paved quarter-mile.  Brandon Vines powered his way around Kevin Langenecker midway through the feature and pulled away late in the going to win their first feature at LaCrosse since 2010.

The wacky Outhouse Race always has some great memories of competitors doing something crazy coming out of the Port-A-Potty, drivers misjudging their jump over the wall and taking a header or a racer or two forgetting to put their race car in park.  The main goal is to get out of the car, quickly grab some toilet paper and hop back into the car and take off.  Alex Liebsch was the quickest to perform his duties in the outhouse in a time of 21.430 seconds to be crowned ‘King of the Portable Throne’.

Action continues next Saturday, July 9 as the big track takes the week off.  It is all about the ‘action track’ quarter mile during the annual Quarter-Mile Mania event with a $500 to win Demolition Derby wrapping up the night.  There will be a ton of close quarters racing with the Hobby Stocks, Street Stocks, Six Shooters, Mini-Vans and the High School Racing Association in action.  If you feel a bit racy, bring your car to the track for the Spectator Drags to decide who is the ‘king of the quarter-mile’.  Gates open at 5:30, qualifying goes green at 5:45 and that close quarters racing kicks into high gear at 7.
