THRILLS AND AMAZING MOVES HIGHLIGHT QUARTER-MILE MANIA AT LACROSSE

On any Saturday night at the LaCrosse Speedway you expect exciting racing action from the top divisions on the big track.  The support divisions that compete on the ‘action track’ quarter-mile put on an equally, if not more, entertaining show for the race fans.  Tonight was the little track’s night to feel like a big deal during the annual Quarter Mile Mania.  Bryon Olson made the most exciting move of the year in his Six Shooter heat race.  Olson got sideways coming out of turn four and he had to make four different moves to keep his car under control without hitting the wall or running into another competitor.  That was not the only excitement of the night as the features and a slew of Novelty events put the fans on the edge of their seats.

In the Hobby Stock feature Adam Moore borrowed his brother Andy’s car to run tonight and it was like old times on the quarter mile.  Former champion Moore shot by another former champion in Jason Bolster on lap seven and ran away with his first feature victory in a number of years.

Rob Stanfield powered by Kyle Cottone for the lead on lap six of the Street Stock feature.  Lester Stanfield did his darndest to make things interesting for Rob, but the dominator of the quarter mile won in the end as Rob added another checkered flag to his trophy case.

The Six Shooter feature saw Cody Bell quickly get to the front as the rest of the field struggled to get their act together.  Tory Lockington tried to keep pace with Bell, but Bell put in a dominant performance to capture his first career feature win.

Josh Ingeltt, back on the quarter mile for the first time in several times, built up a huge advantage in the Mini-Van feature. With just three laps to go Inglett suffered a flat right front tire.  That allowed Kevin Laufenberg to zoom into the lead and claim his first victory at La Crosse.

The High School Racing Association feature turned into a race of attrition as only four cars took the checkered flag. Kennedy Krueger was unstoppable as he led from the start and captured his first ever HSRA feature win.

The Street Stocks ran the first Novelty event of the evening, the 2nd Over the Line Wins. No matter which division competes in this event, it is always exciting to watch who will flinch first to give the win away. Lester Stanfield stopped for just a brief second to let Ketih Larson ahead then powered ahead of the rest of the field to win the race.

Next it was the Six Shooters putting on some close quarters action in the Figure 8 Novelty race. Alex Liebsch was doing his best to stay in the lead, but a flat right front tire ended his race. Ryan Stanfield took over but then ran wide coming to the checkered flag. That allowed Matthew Miller to sneak under Stanfield and steal the win.

The Mini-Vans partnered up for the Tag Team Novelty Race. Lately it has been John Huebner and Ryan Stanfield working with clockwork precision. This time Ryan had a new dance partner in Alex Liebsch but the result was the same. Ryan and Alex worked like a well oiled machine for the very first time to win the race.

The finale of the evening brought all three divisions together for the Race in Total Darkness. The drivers only had lights on the roof of their cars and their headlights to maneuver their way around a darkened quarter mile. Lester Stanfield took over the lead just before the mid-race point

Action continues next Saturday, July 15 as the Upper Midwest Vintage Racing Series makes their pre-Oktoberfest appearance. For many it will be a trip down memory lane to the heyday of Wisconsin short track racing. The Late Models, Sportsmen, Hornets, Hobby Stocks and Six Shooters will be on hnd The Novelty event will be a little more challenging as we run the 3rd Over the Line Wins race. Gates open at 5:30, qualifying goes green shortly after that and the ground pounding racing roars to life at 7.
