Saturday, May 31, 2008 (West Salem, WI) – 100 wins weren’t enough to break Kevin Nuttleman’s desire to win. Just two weeks after winning his 100th Kwik Trip Late Model feature win at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway Kevin Nuttleman came back to win the Craftsman Tools 25 lap Late Model feature.
The race started off with a wreck in the backstretch that continued into turn three taking out a few of the major competitors; Steve Carlson and Ty Reedy. On the restart Shawn Pfaff was on the bumper of Emily Sue Steck battling for 2nd place. Steck then fell back opening the door for Pfaff, Mike Carlson and Kevin Nuttleman. Nuttleman fought his way into the lead and held strong as Mike Carlson and Tony Bagstad, who was previously leading the race, kept each other busy behind him. As the race was coming to a close Bagstad snuck up onto the back bumper of Nuttleman and was looking to pass as they cross the finish line. Bagstad didn’t have enough and Nuttleman was able to take the checkered flag.
Jake Arneson had to survive multiple restarts in order to win the North Country Contractors Sportsmen division feature. When the green flag dropped Ken Lewis and Joe Rinartz went spinning into the wall in turns one and two. Then as they restart the race again Josh Millis got loose in the front stretch narrowly missing many cars. As soon as the drivers were able to get a lap under their belt they fell into single file preparing to make their moves on the guys ahead of them. With seven to go the drivers all broke loose and started shuffling themselves around. It looked as though the racing was going to come to a hault with three to go when Rob Curran got loose in turn four and the cars behind him started to get in the back of each other. But all the drivers were able to keep their cars under control. Meanwhile, Arneson was able to gain a small lead and cross the finish line first.
The United Auto Supply Thuderstox drivers came out to win Saturday night at La Crosse. As the race started on the quarter mile oval it looked as though no one would survive. The drivers were pushing, shoving, and even daring to take the notoriously difficult turns three wide. Yet in the end it was Jason Stark who struggled forward from the back of the pack to take the win.
To prove to the fans they could race hard and play hard, the Thunderstox Novelty drivers did what they are famous for…one by one they raced around the track, jumped out of their cars, over a wall and into an outhouse in the middle of the infield in order to grab the winning ticket, a single sheet of toilet paper. They then jumped back into their cars sped across the finish line. The goal was to be the one to do all of this the quickest with the TP in hand. Adam Moore started the event, and after the rest of the drivers went he proved too quick for anyone else to beat.
Be sure to mark the calendar for Saturday June 7th, as the ASA Late Model North Series stars invade the LaCrosse Speedway. In addition to the River Run 100 ASA Race, the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Models will run TWIN 25 Lap features. The North Country Contractors Sportsmen will also be on hand for this special event. On Saturday June 24th regular racing will continue as the track welcomes a few special guests to compete in the Faster Pastor race.
