(West Salem, WI – August 21, 2010) Points leader J. Herbst held onto his patience to get a feature win in the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model division Saturday night at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway.

Herbst was running in third behind Mike Koeneke and Jay Sauter. The two leaders were in a fierce battle for the lead while Herbst held back; waiting to see what would happen between the two.

A caution came out with six laps to go when Chris Skrede spun in the middle of turns three and four. When the lane cone came out Koeneke took the inside lane with Sauter on the outside in row one. As the leaders exited turn four to take the green flag Koeneke got loose collecting Sauter. They were inches from slamming into the wall before the got their cars back under control.

Steve Carlson is tough to beat at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway – especially when the veteran driver is leading a race. In fact, race fans – or competitors – would be hard-pressed to remember the last time the West Salem, Wis., driver had the lead taken away from him.

It didn’t happen Saturday night, although Rockland’s Mike Koeneke gave Carlson one of the toughest battles he has faced all season. Carlson won his sixth Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model feature of the season by holding off a hard-charging Koeneke in front of large La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway.

Steve Carlson came back to win the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model feature at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway after some rough finishes in the Twin 20’s last week. It wasn’t easy, but a fast car and a lot of patience got Carlson to the front of the field.

“Last week we were so bad,” Carlson said. “The guys worked on it all week and we came out and practiced this afternoon; it really paid off.”

Two 20-lap Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model features had the drivers racing all-or-nothing for the checkered flags.

(West Salem, WI – July 10, 2010) On a track where the unpredictable can happen, it did. 25 Laps was the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model race distance. However, that’s not a lot of time to get to the front - in any division. With the aid of a couple yellows and some quick thinking, J. Herbst earned his second feature win of the 2010 season.
