MAJESKI TAKES SEASON OPENER AT LA CROSSE SPEEDWAY

By: Aspen Andre
(West Salem, WI – May 13, 2017) Mother Nature played nice this week for the LaCrosse Speedway Season Opener after last week’s rainout. With a couple races starting with cautions and some cars being hauled off the track before laps were even completed the night was packed with action.

The Tobacco Outlet Plus Late Model feature got off to a rough start when 5 cars got involved in a caution right as the race got started and we lost 2 cars out of the field before an official lap was even completed. Nick Clements, a relatively new Late Model driver led the field for the first 6 laps, but then fell behind when Steve Carlson took the lead until lap 14 when a caution came out and Nick Panitzke took over for a lap. By lap 15 though, Carlson had was back in the lead for 4 laps again, until Seymour’s Roush Racing driver Ty Majeski took over on lap 19. Majeski held the lead until the checkered flag flew. West Salem’s Steve Carlson finished the night in second and Tony Leis out of Middle Ridge, WI took third.

With a caution in turn one right after the green flag dropped for the Dean’s Satellite & Security Sportsmen feature we saw Chris Skrede from Sparta, WI take the lead for the first two laps before Brian Hesselberg took it from him for 3 laps. In lap 6 there was another caution where Randy Humfeld from Chaseburg, WI took the lead coming out of that and held onto the lead for the remaining 9 laps. Following Humfeld across the line were Adam Oxborough of New Prague, MN and Steve Bachman of West Salem, WI.

Adam Moore of Sparta, WI lead the majority of the laps in the Auto Value Thunderstox race and held the position all the way until the end. Kaleb Hardy and Jason Bolster both also from Sparta finished second and third respectively.

The ANTS Complete Pest Control Hornet feature was led by Cheyanne Stanfield of Sparta for the first 12 laps when Garrett Thicke of West Salem took the lead for 2 laps. But it was Mark Bornitz from Holmen who had the last lap pass to take the checkered flag and Cheyanne Stanfield and Charles Vian followed.

Glen Bass won the Subway Outlawz feature and Jerry Alsworth finished second.

The next event on the Speedway calendar is Saturday, May 20 for Whelen Night with Late Models, Sportsmen, Thunderstox, Outlawz, Street Stocks, and Kids’ Box Car Races.
